direct fiber optic internet is coming soon for glasgow epb internet customers!
broadband like never before...
On September 27th, 2022, the Glasgow Electric Plant Board voted unanimously to begin our biggest broadband network upgrade ever. The direct fiber optic product at the Glasgow EPB will offer the absolute best in the way of internet service.
The Glasgow EPB fiber optic internet product is a reimagining of our current broadband network. The current GEPB internet infrastructure is built using a mix of fiber optic cables to a certain point before they are converted to HFC (Hybrid Fiber-Coaxial) cable to deliver broadband services to your home. This new initiative will build fiber optics directly to your home or business, allowing for much faster speeds and bandwidth capacities.
This project is only starting, the decision to begin Phase I of this new system was approved by GEPB board members on September 27th, 2022. This begins the engineering and equipment ordering
process before construction and installation can even begin. Phase I is tentatively scheduled to be completed by Summer 2023, which will extend fiber optic service to over 1,000 customers. The entire project to construct fiber optic service to every part of Glasgow is expected to be completed in four years.
Pricing for the direct fiber service is not currently available, but we can guarantee it will continue to be one of the most affordable internet options in Glasgow. Once that pricing information is finalized, it will be available right here at GlasgowEPB.com/fiber!
Those with GEPB Cable TV services in addition to internet will see no changes to their cable service. We will be building the fiber optic infrastructure completely separate from the existing hybrid fibercoaxial resulting in no changes needed on the inside or outside of the home when it comes to their cable TV service.
