When you sign up for Glasgow EPB fiber internet service, you will have equipment installed to bring our high-speed connection into your home. This article explains the difference between the two main types of devices you might have: a GigaSpire or a standard ONT.

What is a Standard ONT?

Think of a standard ONT (Optical Network Terminal) as the modem for your fiber optic service.

In short, if you have a standard ONT, your setup will involve two pieces of equipment: the ONT and your personal Wi-Fi router.

What is a GigaSpire?

Think of the GigaSpire as an all-in-one device that combines the functions of an ONT and a powerful Wi-Fi router into a single unit. The GigaSpire also allows customers to easily manage their network with the Glasgow EPB FiberIQ App. GEPB Fiber customers can add a GigaSpire device for $5/month.

Which One Do I Have?

The easiest way to tell is by looking at your equipment. If you have a single device that provides your Wi-Fi, you have a GigaSpire. If you have one small box connected to the fiber line, which is then connected by an Ethernet cable to a separate Wi-Fi router, you have a standard ONT.
